Sports Relief makes more than £29m

Sports Relief has raised more than £29m for charity so far this year, reports the BBC.

A live telethon, which got underway last night, featured special editions of Masterchef, Ashes To Ashes and Mock The Week.

Earlier efforts saw celebrities take on a number of challenges, including Eddie Izzard's 43 marathons in 51 days and Christine Bleakley's cross-Channel water-ski.

A celebrity cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End also took place. Now, members of the public are being encouraged to take part by walking or running in tomorrow's Sport Relief Mile.
